I enjoyed this episode a lot. The statement that really got me was "You say 'I had a good time' or 'I had a bad time.' You don't say 'I had 50 minutes of time."

Balancing everything is often a challenge. You didn't say the word explicitly, but there is always some compromise to good balance. You need to decide how to spend your time.

I also really loved the discussion about being the best and what it means to be the best. I thought this was interesting, especially with some past discussions about finding your style. There are so many different writing and art styles out there, it seems like the best approach is to be the best at what you do. :D

I'm fascinated at how Caro keeps coming up in different podcasts I listen to. I don't really have any interest in the Power Broker, but the podcast 99% Invisible is doing a sort of book club series talking about the book. In another podcast, the hosts have been making their way through the LBJ series, which I have been considering reading. I'm going to need to check it out.

I'm also a Sanderson and Wheel of Time fan. I read the first WoT book (The Eye of the World) in high school, not realizing it was the first book in a series. I devoured it. I have since read through the series multiple times, partly because there was so much time between some of the books coming out that I needed to go back through and re-read to make sure I was keeping everything straight. I am enjoying the Amazon series but it is VERY different, which is understandable when you adapt it for the screen. They remain pretty true to the characters, but things are happening in different orders.

Robert Caro is an American treasure. One few people know about. Reading just a few pages of any of his books shows how he makes something read easy, that is anything but easy to create.

Thanks so much for listening, commenting, and generally being awesome, Ben! It's funny how I now find myself fretting about not having time to read Wheel of Time right after our episode about balancing "time." As often is, these concepts are easier said than done. 😁
